Jean-Yves Fortin is Chairman of the Board and Senior Partner of BCF LLP, lawyers, patent and trade mark agents. His practice focuses on the areas of commercial law, commercial litigation, banking and insolvency.
From 1974 to 1985 he was professor of commercial and bankruptcy law at the Association du Barreau du Québec, Université de Montréal and the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
He was a member of the Advisory Committee established by the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs of the Government of Canada (Colter Commission) 1985?1986.
Jean-Yves Fortin has been a Charter Member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada since 1990, Secretary from 2000 to 2001, Vice President from 2001 to 2002, President from 2002 to 2004, and Honorary Chairman and Fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada since 2004.
Member of a commission of the American Law Institute (Canada, United States, Mexico) to define one common legislation in the area of insolvency, from 1995 to 2000.
Member of the Editorial Board of the National Insolvency Review since 2000.
Founding member of the International Insolvency Institute 2002.
Member of the Bankruptcy Management Advisory Board for the Office of the Superintendent since April 2002.
Board Director of the Canadian Insolvency Foundation (2004 - 2006).
Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy (2005).
Member of the board of the Founders Club of the Alpine Canada Alpin Foundation (2006).
Mr. Fortin has been involved in most of the major workouts and insolvencies in the Montreal area over the past thirty years. |
