Law Practice This experience includes four years in Eastern Canada with the Rulings Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency ("CRA"), the Senior Technical and Policy Branch of CRA in Ottawa, and as a senior tax associate at the Toronto office of a major national law firm. During his stay in Ottawa, Mr. Cooper was directly involved with officials of the Department of Finance in the development of tax policy and federal income tax legislation and has advised the Minister of National Revenue. Mr. Cooper has acted as tax counsel to a wide variety of clients, including entrepreneurs and small business clients, as well as large multi‑national clients involved in cross border transactions. Mr. Cooper has spoken on a variety of tax related issues to members of such professional groups as The Law Society of Upper Canada, The Law Society of British Columbia and the Certified General Accountants' Association of British Columbia. He is the author of numerous articles and has taught the fourth year Tax Law and Policy course at Ottawa's Carleton University. Mr. Cooper is currently the co-editor and founder of Executive Tax Briefs, a monthly tax update publication for owner/managers and their financial advisors; and the co-founder of Tax and Financial Strategies, a one year case study program for public practitioners. Mr. Cooper advises on a full range of taxation and estate planning matters, and also represents clients in tax disputes with CRA and other taxation authorities. Bar Admissions |
