Carl Schwebel

Carl joined our Real Estate Group in March 2005 after practising as a partner at a national law firm. In the past five years, Carl has closed more than $800 million in real estate acquisitions, sales and financings.

Carl also has broad experience dealing with problem real estate loans. He was general counsel in the Standard Trust Company liquidation and was a key lawyer in Standard's $600 million sale of mortgage assets to Laurentian Bank of Canada and other portfolio sales of foreclosed properties and non-performing debt. Carl was also a special counsel to Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation where, among other things, he advised on matters relating to directors', officers' and auditors' liability arising from the failures of various trust and loan corporations.
