Derek has been a practising attorney for over 25 years. He has been a consultant to Routledge Modise since July 2003. Derek has served on the boards of a number of listed companies, served as Chairman of Honeywell Southern Africa and is currently Chairman of Italtile Limited. He has been the South African representative of the International Lawyers Group since 1996 and serves on its executive committee. Notable transactions in which Derek acted as corporate legal advisor include:

  • Acquisition of 10% of Standard Bank Limited by an empowerment consortium
  • Disposal by Metro Cash & Carry Limited of its South African subsidiaries
  • Establishment of the Andisa Financial Services Group
  • Acquisition of 10% of Liberty Life Limited by an empowerment consortium
  • Scheme of arrangement between Ellerines Limited and Wetherleys Limited
  • Disposal by Warner Brothers of its interest in ETV
  • Sale of KSDP Group to Tempus PLC
  • Acquisition of 10% of Stanlib Limited by an Empowerment Consortium
  • Transaction concerning the empowerment of Mustek Limited
