Background Mark P. Eikland is of Upper Tanana heritage and a citizen of Kluane First Nation in the Yukon. Prior to completing his law degree, Mr. Eikland worked extensively with First Nations in areas of Treaty negotiations and implementation, governance and federal legislative development. He has also worked in areas of natural resources regulation and environmental assessment. Specifically, Mr. Eikland's involvement has included collecting traditional ecological knowledge at the community level, designing protocols to deal with the collection and use of traditional knowledge, participating in tri-partite negotiations to develop federal legislation and designing and implementing consultation processes that were concerned with federal legislation and major development proposals. Professional and Other Activities Mr. Eikland is a member of the Yukon Surface Rights Board, which is an administrative tribunal in the Yukon and a former member of the National Advisory Committee on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act . He is also active as a board member of Environmental Aboriginal Guardianship through Law and Education (EAGLE).
