| José E. González-BorgosShareholder José E. González-Borgos is a shareholder in the litigation division at Fiddler González & Rodríguez, P.S.C. He has practice in civil and commercial litigation. Mr. González-Borgos studied at the Canisius College of Buffalo. He was awarded his Juris Doctor degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, where he was a member of the Law Review.Mr. González-Borgos is admitted to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, where for eleven years has been appointed by six Presidents of the Puerto Rico Bar Association to serve as an active member of the committee in charge of the evaluation of the candidates for the judiciary branch in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico ("Comisión Evaluadora de Nombramientos Judiciales del Colegio de Abogados"). Presently, Mr. González-Borgos is the President of said committee. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.Mr. González-Borgos has developed an expertise in complex litigation in cases dealing with the following areas: 1) major industrial accidents; 2) lender's liability; 3) contractual law; 4) general torts; 5) environmental litigation (toxic torts); 6) construction law; 7) franchise law; 8) administrative law; 9) healthcare law; 10) arbitration, among others.Mr. González-Borgos has litigated and argued cases in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico courts at all levels (Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Court of First Instance). He has also handled cases in the Federal District Court for the District of Puerto Rico (jury and non-jury trials), appeals at the First Circuit Court of Appeals; as well as cases in other state and federal jurisdictions (i.e. New York, Florida, Missouri, Massachusetts and Virgin Islands). In addition, Mr. González-Borgos has been part of the litigation team in three out of the five longest trials handled by Fiddler Gonzalez & Rodríguez, PSC in the last thirty years (85, 94 and 34 days of actual trial, respectively).
