Representative work Employers, employees, governments and others engage Tom to advise and represent them in a variety of matters and before various boards and courts, including: - Supreme Court of Canada - represented employers in precedent-setting labour cases and represented the Province of Alberta in respect of the constitutionality of federal firearms legislation
- Alberta Court of Appeal - conducts appeals from judicial review; Tom has also represented the Energy and Utilities Board on appeals and leave to appeal applications
- Alberta Court of Queen's Bench - regularly represents organizations on judicial review applications and employment lawsuits
- Alberta Labour Relations Board and the Canada Industrial Relations Board - continually represents and advises employers regarding matters such as union certification and revocation, unfair labour practice complaints, strikes and lockouts, and successorship and common employer applications
- Grievance Arbitration Boards - regularly represents employers in disputes arising under collective agreements. Tom has represented employers in respect to such issues as management rights, employee terminations, layoffs, sexual harassment, intoxication, employee compensation, employee benefits, and union dues and remittances
- Human Rights Commission of Alberta - regularly represents employers in respect to human rights complaints
- Conducts collective bargaining on behalf of employers - Tom has negotiated collective agreements in the fields of education, construction, steelworks, manufacturing, and utilities
- Advises employers regarding the drafting, implementation and application of executive contracts, employment agreements, non-competition and confidentiality provisions, change of control agreements, drug and alcohol testing programs, harassment policies, and general employment policies and practices

- Represents employers as required in respect to privacy law, employment standards, Occupational Health & Safety, workers' compensation, and temporary foreign workers
