Details:
Patrick Kingsley works in our Litigation Department. He has handled a wide variety of complex commercial disputes, as well as personal injury claims, intellectual property claims, surety claims, securities claims and product liability claims. He has successfully tried more than 30 cases across the country. Those trials have occurred in several different forums and involved extremely diverse legal claims and fact patterns.

Perhaps the following experience best exemplifies the nature of Mr. Kingsley's representation. In his last jury trial -- in which he represented the plaintiff -- the jury came back with the following question after only one hour of deliberation: "May we award extra damages and attorney's fees"?

After his last non-jury trial, while awaiting the decision, Mr. Kingsley's client wrote the following note: "In case I didn't make it perfectly clear, you are an awesome attorney. In thinking through the hearing the past day or so (I guess I won't be able to forget about it till the final decision), there was not one point or time in which you could have done a better job. Everything was perfectly thought through and planned. So again, thank you. And thank you for representing me with such conviction and intensity."

A few days later, the decision came back: a defense verdict representing a complete victory for the client.

Mr. Kingsley is an experienced trial lawyer. He has tried both jury and non-jury cases and has successfully represented clients in arbitrations, mediations, hearings before administrative law judges and referees and in several other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Some of Mr. Kingsley's more significant professional accomplishments include:

  • successfully prosecuting a claim of unfair competition before a NASD arbitration panel brought by a regional brokerage firm, obtaining a significant monetary award;
  • successfully defending a fledgling industrial minerals supplier in a two-week long injunction hearing involving claims of theft of industrial trade secrets brought by a competitor;
  • successfully defending a refractory manufacturer in a major jury trial alleging wrongful death from cancer allegedly due to occupational exposure at a steel mill;
  • successfully defending surety bond claims arising out of a catastrophic accident on a construction project in Rihyad, Saudi Arabia;
  • successfully defending a variety of sophisticated toxic tort cases involving exposures to, among other things, electro-magnetic fields, coal tar pitch, silica, metal dust, mold, alumina, asbestos, tobacco and radiation;
  • successfully defending numerous products liability cases involving a variety of products including industrial equipment, chain saws, motorcycle helmets, conveyor belts, cosmetics, laminators, shot peening machines, refractories, windows, insulation, electric generators and turbines;
  • successfully prosecuting a contract dispute between an insurance general agent and a broker, the jury returning an award for the full amount sought by Mr. Kingsley's client;
  • successfully defending over a dozen landlord/tenant actions, including both commercial and residential properties;
  • successfully defending over a dozen unemployment compensation claims for a major utility company and obtaining defense verdicts in every case;
  • successfully defending local municipalities in police brutality and §1983 cases, obtaining complete dismissals in each and every case;
  • successfully defending a large property owner from the exercise of eminent domain by a local municipality; and
  • successfully prosecuting an action for spousal support and alimony in Family Court.

Prior to joining Stradley Ronon in 2000, Mr. Kingsley was associated with two law firms in Pittsburgh. There, he practiced a variety of types of litigation, ranging from products liability, trade secrets, commercial and employment to toxic tort, unemployment compensation, general contract, landlord/tenant and antitrust.
