David Canton is the senior lawyer in Harrison Pensa's High-Tech and E-Business Practice Group. His practice focuses on information technology, knowledge based and e-business matters such as software licenses, intellectual property ownership and transfer, outsourcing agreements, consulting agreements, privacy, Internet and computer use policies, and Internet and e-business issues.

David majored in computer science before entering law school at the University of Western Ontario and was called to the Bar in 1981. Prior to joining Harrison Pensa, David practiced for a number of years as Senior Corporate Counsel for a major Canadian financial institution focusing on information and technology law, including advising on matters related to licensing, web Banking, ABM maintenance and cash supply, disaster recovery and electronic bill presentation and payment.

David has advised on and/or negotiated agreements with companies such as AOL, AT&T, Aliant, BAE, BCE Emergis, Bell, Boeing, Brinks, CGI, Ceridan, Computer Associates, Cisco, EMC, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Equifax, Ericson, GE, IBM, Imoney, Intuit, Keane, Kodak, LGS, Lotus, Lucent, Mastercard, Microsoft, Moore, Motorola, NB Tel, NCR, Novell, Oracle, Peoplesoft, RIM, Reuters, SAS, Solcorp, Telus, Tivoli, Unisys, Vantage and Xerox.

Davis is a member of the Canadian Bar Association - Information Technology and Electric Commerce Section , Meritas - Information Technology Group, Canadian IT Law Association, IT London Council, InterNETwork London Organizing Committee, London Chamber of Commerce IT Roundtable, London Tech Alliance and the London and District Junior Achievement Board of Directors.

David speaks at various events such as the Canadian-IT Law Association, InterNETwork London, and the London Chamber of Commerce, and gives guest lectures on software and e-business issues at the University of Western Ontario Law School, Engineering School and Computer Science Department as well as the Ivey Business School.

Davis is author of "Legal Landmines in E-Commerce" published by McGraw-Hill. He has been quoted in articles in publications such as the London Free Press, Toronto Star, Eli's e-Commerce Alert, Computer Dealer News, and a book entitled "B2B Canada".

David writes regular newspaper column on e-business law for the London Free Press which is also available on the Canoe & Webfin web sites.
