| Álvaro José Rodríguez is an Associate at Posse, Herrera & Ruiz. His practice focuses in environmental, energy and corporate law. Mr. Rodríguez originally joined Posse, Herrera & Ruiz in 1999 and recently returned to the firm after serving, on behalf of the Colombian Ministry of Environment, as lead Colombian negotiator of the Environmental and Intellectual Property Chapters of the Free Trade Agreement between the Andean Countries and the United States. He is also a Member of the Compliance Committee of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which regulates international trade in genetically modified organisms. Mr. Rodríguez received an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1995 and a J.D. from the Universidad de los Andes in 1995. Highlights of Mr. Rodríguez' professional practice at Posse, Herrera & Ruiz include assisting the merger of two major wireless broadband telecommunications services providers in Colombia, securing clearance from regulatory and competition authorities; advising in the divestment of the metals and aviation division of a major multinational chemical company; and assisting in the acquisition by a Japanese multinational of household insecticides division of a French chemical company. Mr. Rodríguez provided counsel in Colombian competition law for the acquisition of a spirits and wine distributor's operations in Colombia by the industry leader. He has advised clients in public bids for the award of concession contracts, such as the operation of solid waste collection services and the public transportation system of Bogotá (Transmilenio). Mr. Rodríguez has worked in the Litigation Department of Cavelier Abogados and has been appointed Director of International Negotiations of the Colombian Ministry of Environment. He was Assistant and Legal Adviser to the CEO of Empresas Municipales de Cali. Mr. Rodríguez is currently a lecturer in International and Environmental Law at Universidad Externado de Colombia.
