Juan Guillermo Ruiz is one of the founding partners of Posse, Herrera & Ruiz and he leads the Tax Law department. His practice is dedicated to a wide array of tax matters and, in particular, to cross-border transactions, project financing and tax planning

Mr. Ruiz received a J.D. from the Universidad Javeriana in 1983, a Master's Degree in Administrative Law from the Universidad del Rosario in 1985, and attended the Program in Business Management at Inalde, Universidad de la Sabana, in 2004.

Mr. Ruiz has been tax advisor for several infrastructure projects for power generation and distribution, gas production, water supply and telecommunications. He has been involved in many foreign investment projects and related foreign exchange matters, and he provides tax planning for income, withholding and remittance taxes and VAT.

Mr. Ruiz has advised on the acquisition of several financial institutions. He has provided legal and tax advice to both foreign and local clients in cross border transactions, international distribution agreements, financial leases, and the private and public placement of bonds and other financial instruments, in local and foreign markets, on behalf of insurance companies and investment banks. He also has reviewed the financial structure and the establishment of consortia and joint ventures for international public bidding processes.

Mr. Ruiz is a frequent speaker in seminars on taxation and foreign exchange. He has published several works on tax related matters, including "Taxation in Latin America" (Tributación en América Latina) (1995) and "New Exchange Rules Applicable in Colombia" (Nueva Reglamentación sobre Cambios Aplicables en

Colombia ) (co-author, 1991). He is a regular contributor to "La Republica", an economic daily newspaper,  "Ambito Jurídico", a legal bi-monthly newspaper, and is the Editor of our Bulletin.

He is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Fiscal Association, the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Colombian Institute of Tax Law. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
