J. David Tracy

A Fort Worth native and practicing attorney since 1971, Mr. Tracy is the author of numerous articles, and is a frequent lecturer for continuing legal education seminars sponsored by the State Bar of Texas, law schools, and other entities. Mr. Tracy's experience and leadership in his field brings additional depth to Cantey & Hanger's highly regarded Taxation, Trust and Estates, Small Business Organizations Group.

Mr. Tracy's practice includes:

Wealth transfer planning for individuals and families, including business succession planning

Estate planning

• Probate and trust law
• ERISA, employee benefits, and individual retirement accounts planning
• Tax law, with particular emphasis on partnership tax (including specifically limited partnerships), limited liability companies, and corporate tax matters

Mr. Tracy has worked for more than 20 years with the Texas Board of Legal Specialization which culminated in his appointment as chair of the Tax Law Advisory Commission for 1999-2000. Mr. Tracy is a former chair of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and he is listed in the trusts and estates section, and the tax section, of the Best Lawyers in America.

Mr. Tracy became interested in computers during the late seventies. He enjoys listening to classical music in the evening while working on computer programming with the help of the family's Norwegian Forest Cat.

Mr. Tracy is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel; a member of the Board of Directors (and treasurer) of the Texas Academy of Probate and Trust Lawyers; and a charter member of the College of the State Bar. In addition, in the mid-seventies, Mr. Tracy was an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University School of  Law, where he added the advanced corporate taxation course to the law school's curriculum.
