| Bar Admission Called to the Barreau du Québec, 1998 Tom Vouloumanos has been practicing in the field of intellectual property since 1998. He studied microbiology and immunology at the Université de Montréal and earned a law degree from the Université de Sherbrooke. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1998, and he is a registered patent agent since 2004. In his early legal career, Tom gained experience in a downtown Montréal commercial law practice drafting and negotiating contracts such as patent licencing agreements, followed by a six-year career in another Quebec patent and trade mark firm before joining BCF in 2005. Tom has drafted, prosecuted and obtained patents in a variety of fields such as mechanical, biotechnology, chemistry, as well as branching out into software patents. Over the years, Tom has developed a deep understanding of patent law with respect to drafting, prosecuting and patent applications in Canada, the United States, Europe at the PCT and elsewhere, legal opinions regarding patentability, infringement and design around as well as intellectual property due diligence in a broad variety of technological fields, making Tom a truly versatile patent agent and intellectual property lawyer. Tom has worked primarily for small and medium-sized Québec businesses and has a hands on understanding of both their legal and economic needs in building solid Intellectual Property portfolios, defending their position in the marketplace and developing IP strategies for future growth and prosperity.
