Dr. Gries' main focus of practice is civil commercial litigation. He has tried several complex litigation and arbitration cases involving amongst others train construction (in particular subway construction) and the construction of industrial plants. He also practices international trade litigation again with an emphasis on train and subway construction with cases reaching as far as Bangkok and Taipei. His other cases frequently involve communications technology, computer and office equipment and other electric goods. Dr. Gries' practice is also centered on labour law, in particular labour contracts, (mainly executive contracts), wrongful termination claims, employer/employee rights and the interpretation of collective bargaining agreements (IT, banking, trade). Dr. Gries has provided advisory opinions for labour legislation, i.e. with respect to severance pay. Dr. Gries has given a number of presentations on labour law sponsored by international enterprises in particular with regard to the drafting of employment contracts. Another important aspect of Dr. Gries' practice is construction law, in particular building construction, construction supervision, remedial action, warranties and damages as well as the supervision of adherence to building codes (in Austria O-NORMEN). But Dr. Gries' practice also includes a host of other matters such as traffic related accidents in general and in particular multi-jurisdictional traffic accidents requiring the application of the Hague Convention on the Law Applicable to Traffic Accidents. He represents victims as well as insurance agencies and the insurance holder. In addition, he has also litigated a number of skiing accidents. In all these matters he also works on the criminal law aspects of these cases. His work also includes aviation law, in particular involving air cargo and the representation of companies and consumers in matters involving consumer law, Dr. Gries' doctor thesis analyses, "The impact of the Brussels and Lugano Convention on the Austrian Law of Procedure".
