John N. Leach, Jr. was born in Gadsden, Alabama, in 1941. He grew up in Gadsden and attended Vanderbilt University where he received his undergraduate degree with honors in 1963. He attended law school at the University of Virginia where he received his law degree in 1966. Upon graduation and admission to the Alabama bar in 1966, he served for two years as a law clerk for Judge Virgil Pittman of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. Mr. Leach has been in the private practice of law in Mobile since completion of his clerkship with Judge Pittman.Mr. Leach is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, as well as a member of the American Judicature Society, the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (Member, Board of Directors, 1977-1980), the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and the Defense Research Institute. He is a member of the American, Alabama and Mobile Bar Associations. He has been a frequent speaker at Continuing Legal Education seminars.Mr. Leach has been admitted to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, and all courts of the State of Alabama, including the Alabama Supreme Court. He has been included in many editions and in multiple categories of Best Lawyers in America.
