| John T. Dukes attended Washington & Lee University where he received his undergraduate degree with honors in 1991. He then attended the University of Alabama School of Law where he received his law degree with honors in 1994. While in law school, John served as a member and editor of the Alabama Law Review.John has been in private practice of law with the firm since 1994. He primarily handles real property, corporate and general business related matters. John has represented buyers, sellers and lenders in numerous commercial real estate transactions involving such properties as shopping centers, condominium developments, hotels, restaurant franchises, nursing homes, apartment complexes and timberland. He handles a broad range of other real estate matters including vacation of public right-of-ways, subdivisions, easements, title and survey issues, commercial leases, enforcement of mechanics and materialmen liens, and other matters.John is retained on a regular basis by foreign lenders in connection with commercial loan documentation, enforceability opinions and related matters. John also represents lenders in foreclosure and post-foreclosure dispositions. John has represented borrowers in connection with various HUD and HUD guaranteed loans in the State of Alabama as well as borrowers in connection financing obtained pursuant to tax-exempt bond issuances.With respect to business transactions, John has represented buyers or sellers in connection with numerous stock or asset transactions involving such businesses as survey and engineering, mechanical piping, electrical contracting, steel fabrication, health and rehabilitation, telecommunications, environmental services, insurance, accounting, payroll and data processing, computer sales and technology, salvage, waste disposal and others. John also assists with the formation and organization of corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships and provides post-formation assistance in a wide range of areas such as buy-sell agreements among owners, employment handbooks, state and federal employment law matters including intellectual property, non-competition, non-solicitation, and arbitration agreements.John is a member of the Business Law and Corporate Counsel; Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law; Labor and Employment Law; and Litigation sections of the Alabama State Bar. John is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Alabama, and all courts of the State of Alabama, including the Alabama Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Mobile Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute.
