W. Jack Keiser is a Member of Miller Johnson and is the Chair of the Family Law Group. He has been practicing law since 1970 and focuses his practice in the areas of family and corporate law. Marital MattersMr. Keiser represents individuals in complex divorce litigation involving the disposition or division of family-owned businesses and assets, tax planning for settlement, and dealing with such issues as inherited assets and assets owned prior to marriage. His representation often involves disputes over millions of dollars, as in the case of one client where Mr. Keiser represented a wife seeking to set aside a prenuptial agreement. Mr. Keiser is certified as a mediator in family mediation under the Michigan Court Rules. In that capacity, he has assisted in accomplishing settlement for numerous parties in divorce and other family related disputes. Combining his skills developed over 30 years of counseling businesses on a variety of legal issues, with his prowess handling complicated family related litigation, makes Mr. Keiser a sought after attorney for mediation. Adoption and Alternative Reproductive Technology MattersIn addition to representing couples or agencies in adoption matters, Mr. Keiser is one of the few attorneys in Michigan that has experience in the area of Alternative Reproduction Technology (ART). In this capacity, Mr. Keiser typically represents couples seeking to locate a reproductive donor. His work involves interviewing potential donors, preparing and negotiating the contractual agreement, and working closely with the chosen reproductive clinic to ensure appropriate measures are followed. Business CounselingBefore devoting a significant portion of his practice to family law matters, Mr. Keiser worked extensively with business entities in a corporate counsel capacity. He possesses extensive experience in corporate law, and has served as outside corporate counsel for a number of companies, including a $500 million holding company where he handled matters involving defined benefit pension plans, acquisitions and regulatory issues. Mr. Keiser also served as the Trustee and Secretary of a $100 million charitable foundation. Professional Affiliations, Activities, and HonorsMr. Keiser is a Fellow of two prestigious law related organizations: the Michigan State Bar Foundation and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He served as the Chair of the State Bar of Michigan's Alimony Guidelines Committee for eight years and is the Co-Chair of the Family Support Committee of the Family Law Section for the State Bar. He is also a member of the Michigan Council for Family and Divorce Mediation, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Grand Rapids Bar Association, and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association. Mr. Keiser is a former President, Director, and Family Law Committee Chair of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and over the years, he has been an elected member of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Council, Kalamazoo County School Officers, the Michigan Association of School Boards, and the National Association of School Boards. Articles and PresentationsMr. Keiser has written and spoken widely on topics relating to family law including:
