| Craig A. Mutch is a Member of Miller Johnson and has been practicing law since 1977. His practice is focused on representing a wide range of public and private businesses and organizations in labor and employment law matters, particularly school districts. School LawMr. Mutch has a significant practice in the area of school law. He represents numerous Michigan K-12 public school districts and boards of education in matters pertaining many complex and day-to-day issues, including administrator, teacher and support staff contract negotiations, student disciplinary and special education matters, teacher discipline and tenure disputes, Title IX controversies, and other discrimination and constitutional related litigation. As an example, Mr. Mutch represented a school district in a racially charged lawsuit involving the sexual assault of a female student by five of her male classmates. He has also been involved in many high profile cases, one involving the mandatory expulsion of an honors student who violated Michigan weapons laws by wearing traditional Scottish regalia to a school function. He was the chair of the firm's Education Practice Group. Labor and Employment LawIn addition to his work in the area of school law, Mr. Mutch possesses broad experience handling labor and employment law matters. He has advised both public and private sector employers on issues relating to union and non-union workforces, including collective bargaining agreements, labor arbitrations, organizing drives, and labor regulations. In addition, he has advised company owners and managers on how to handle a wide variety of employment issues, including difficult harassment, discrimination, disability, and wage and hour matters. Professional Affiliations, Activities, and HonorsMr. Mutch is a member of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys where he was formerly a member of the Board of Directors, the Industrial Relations Research Association, the Human Resources Group of Grand Rapids, the Muskegon Economic Growth Alliance, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He is a former member of the adjunct faculty of Ferris State University, where he taught courses on labor relations. He served as the firm's General Counsel. Additionally, he has authored articles on employee rights, employee medical health records, employment audits and employment-at-will topics. EducationMr. Mutch received his law degree, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School in 1977. While in law school, he was a member of the Law Review and received a Gold Key Award for academic achievement. Mr. Mutch received his undergraduate degree in 1974 from the University of Michigan. He is admitted to practice in all Michigan state and appellate courts.
