Law Practice
Hugh H. Claxton chairs the firm's banking and financial services group. Mr. Claxton acts for banks, credit unions, life insurance companies, trust companies, pension funds and other commercial lenders as well as borrowers in connection with: all types of loan and other credit facilities from simple mortgage transactions to complex multi-jurisdictional credit facilities; the financing of all types of real estate investments including shopping centres, office buildings, hotels, multi-unit residential buildings and industrial properties; CMHC insured loans over multi-unit residential buildings; issues of bonds and debentures and other instruments in private placements; project loans for real estate developments, independent power projects and industrial plants; financings of the purchase, lease and sale with leaseback of equipment; letters of credit and other financial instruments; vessel and aircraft financing; personal property security matters and multi-jurisdictional transactions involving parties and assets in other Canadian provinces and the United States. Mr. Claxton is a Registered Professional Forester, has been a member of the Association of British Columbia Professional Foresters since 1979. He is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association (British Columbia Branch) and is the Treasurer of the Banking section and is also a member of the Real Estate and Forestry (past Chairman) sections.
