Details:

Jamie has a diverse practice in many areas of law, including: employment, labour relations, human rights, corporate, commercial, technology, intellectual property, entertainment, charities, and wills and estates. He regularly appears before administrative tribunals (such as labour boards and human rights commissions) and arbitrators (primarily in employment and labour relations matters). Jamie is often involved in international corporate transactions on behalf of clients in the technology and communications sectors, including mergers and acquisitions.   He also assists entrepreneurs in implementing tax-planned corporate and trust structures for business ownership.

Jamie does much more than represent his clients on a particular matter. Jamie?s clients appreciate his ability to understand any particular matter in the broader context of a client?s overall needs and desires. This enables him to provide proactive, not merely reactive, advice. Jamie personalizes the representation of his clients; one typical client commented that, ?Jamie speaks using phrases such as ?our position? and ?we propose? ? not ?my client?s position? or ?my client?s proposal? ? he really makes it clear whose side he is on!?

When dealing with business clients, Jamie strives diligently to provide a quick turn-around time on matters of urgency. Given his broad range of legal and business experiences, many of Jamie?s business clients view him as a part of their own management teams. On employment matters, Jamie is a fearless advocate for his clients before boards and arbitrators.

In addition to maintaining a busy law practise, Jamie is very involved in charitable efforts. He created the Canadian Improv Games, an improvisational theatre competition which, over 25 years, has taught the skills of team-work and creativity to tens of thousands of high school students across Canada. He was a founding member of the Canadian National Christian Foundation.  Having spent 20 years teaching at the graduate level in business and public administration, Jamie is particularly interested in leadership development and sits on the boards of several charitable organizations involved in that endeavour on a local and national level.
