Daniel R. Canavan focuses his practice on serving the litigation needs of members of the energy industry, as well as product manufacturers and distributors. He has a wide variety of litigation experience, including successfully trying cases to verdict. Mr. Canavan is a co-chairman of the firm's Product Liability and Toxic Tort Committee. He is also an active member of the firm's Commercial Litigation, Insurance Coverage and Professional Defense committees.
Mr. Canavan has served as counsel to energy clients in a variety of legal settings. He has served as litigation counsel to local and regional distributors of petroleum products. In addition, Mr. Canavan has represented operators of wastewater treatment facilities and providers of telecommunication services in an assortment of litigation settings, including trial in the Connecticut and Federal courts and arbitration proceedings before the American Arbitration Association.
Mr. Canavan's product liability litigation experience includes defending wholesale petroleum distributors and chemical manufactures in benzene exposure claims, defending product manufactures in asbestos litigation, defending medical professionals in their use of prosthetic devices, and representing insurance carriers in product liability subrogation claims.
Mr. Canavan's professional liability practice focuses on all aspects of legal, medical and dental malpractice litigation, including trial, arbitration, mediation, settlement negotiations, motion practice, and depositions. He has defended multiple insurance carriers in policy disputes, bad faith claims, coverage disputes between carriers, and collection actions.
Mr. Canavan resides in Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Canavan graduated, cum laude, from Quinnipiac College School of Law, and received his B.S. in accounting from Eastern Connecticut State University.
