Robert is a contributing author of Engleman?s Intellectual Property Update and often writes articles and gives talks on many of the areas described below. Recent speaking engagements have included The International Business Leaders Forum, The Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy of Arts. Brands and Fashion Fashion moves fast and contentious design issues abound. Robert has advised brands such as Base London and Kookai, obtaining successful settlements in all cases. Additionally, major brands in all sectors require advice on intellectual property (rights) and commercial issues from sales promotions to agency and distribution agreements. Robert handles matters such as these for well known brands including global restaurant chains, high street retailers and even the Queen's perfumer. Working closely with outside trade mark agents and counsel where necessary, Robert helps clients in all creative industries to protect and enforce their trade mark, copyright, design and patent rights. Data Protection / Freedom of Information This is a growing and increasingly complex field. Robert provides compliance advice to UK and multi-national organisations such as Dow Jones, publishers of The Wall Street Journal. Gaming Whether advising gambling clients on UK law or those in related industries such as media, advertising and interactive television, Robert provides advice on all aspects of betting, gaming and sales promotion, under both the existing legal regime and the new dawn of the Gambling Act. Film and TV Robert acts for producers, finance companies and all facets of the motion picture and television industry. From script options to sales agreements, Robert and the rest of the team assist at every stage in production from development to distribution. Robert is a full, voting member of BAFTA and has been credited on a number of British movies. Information Technology Robert is a self-confessed gadget freak. This provides a useful skill-set when he is advising clients in the IT industry or negotiating complex agreements with Sky TV and Telewest for the provision of interactive digital TV services. On the contentious side, Robert has conducted numerous domain name disputes through WIPO and Nominet in addition to pursuing remedies through the Courts. Photography, Art & Music Robert advises the Council of the Association of Illustrators and provides copyright and contractual assistance to its membership. He also acts on behalf of several well known artists and photographers. Robert looks after European intellectual property matters for the US rock band Linkin Park and is a member of the BRIT Awards voting academy.
